Two days ago, TG found a new Yahoo home page with url – http://m.www.yahoo.com/ . After asking around, TG was told Yahoo has launched a test randomly.

The new home page revamp may come just as the right time, injecting a new source of energy to the troubled internet giant. Yahoo has rough days over the past 12 months and many staff left the company, a new ”front door” may bring good feng shui (風水) back to the company. Just for kidding!!
“We are going to put what matters to you most at your fingertips,” said Tapan Bhat, the senior vice president in charge of “front doors” — the main destinations at Yahoo, including Yahoo.com, MyYahoo and the Yahoo toolbar.
The new Yahoo home page features a tab on the left hand column of the page with sophisticated links to the user’s 10 or 20 favorite sites. It functions as an alternative to navigation methods like bookmarks, link bars or browser tabs, he said.
At the center of the new homepage is its Content Optimization Knowledge Engine, a personalization technology that can determine what the most engaging content may be to a specific user, then serve it up based on their prior surfing habits. Users can tie their knots to relevant ads, the COKE will deliver relevant ads according to their particular interests.
Yahoo has invited a random sample of its users amounting to less than 1 percent of audience to test the makeover of the new Yahoo homepage. The tests will be conducted in Britain, France, India and the United States.
TG kept the current home page – Hong Kong channel before it’s gone.

Kelikuru.com is 嘰哩咕嚕, a Chinese term basically means rumbling. The idea comes across TG's mind while watching a cartoon show on TV few years ago. We walk through our life, day by day ; speak to many people, known or unknown, year after year and we may not notice that there are so many wonderful things passing by. Writing a blog can literally leave my foot-prints in the internet world, help me keep the memory. At this moment, a big chunk of my life is closely aligned with user-centric design, user research, web-based environment both in Hong Kong and China. Perhaps I may not be like that tomorrow, I may be in other setting, have nothing to do with usability, but who knows what's going to happen next?

What the hell? I don’t care about executives wanting to change the feng shui of the search engine. I’m mad as hell and want my old yahoo look back and there is no way to do it on my computer! I’ve searched for half an hour! Shouldn’t I have a damn choice? It keeps redirecting me to m.www.yahoo, and there is no way to fix it. Screw yahoo.

I HATE the new Yahoo. I want the old one back or at least the things that I love about the old one to be on the new one. I really hate the fact that on the new one I can’t just roll my mouse over the Yahoo Messenger and see if friends are online. I also don’t like the format on the left-hand site.

Adblock plus butchers the new page, it pushes most of the content to the left side of the window. Google is unaffected as was the old yahoo page.

BAD Product, I agree with liking the old version better! This 2.0 crud is just too FAT for anything but GOOD broadband. I’ve noticed a significant performace hit in some loactions and over wireless!

Yes, I’ve noticed significant performace hits also. Why fix something that was totally dependable and not in need of fixing?! I also don’t like the format on the left-hand site. Bring back the old page.

I hate the new site. Also, when m.yahoo.com starts to open, I often go to the address bar to type in a new site. It starts typing there but then shifts down to the Yahoo search. I could understand this happening once but it often happens two or three times in a row! It’s like they want to make sure I do everything from Yahoo.
Well, after many years of having Yahoo as my home page, I’m going to shift to google or BBC or CNN or something else that is simple or that I might actually want to look at.

I would have liked to have been told before they just did the change, but other than that, I’ve had no problems with it. If it’s better, I welcome it. I think it’s too early to judge for me. It’s certainly not enough for me to switch to Google. Screw Google!
