“Have you google lately?” something you may ask your foreign friends in your usual greetings. In China, search can be much more fun as search engines are flourishing with companies allocating more resources to create their own brands and develop their own set-ups.

Netease (網易), known as 163.com, has spiced up its “Youdao” (有道) search engine with a ”Shopping” channel.

Tencent (腾訊), which has teamed up with Google in early 2005,  also launched a new Chinese search engine called QQ Search by adopting Google search engine and paid advertising technology. QQ Search provides web, image, file and news search.

The new search engine was named  Soso.com (搜搜), can also be used to search for content on QQ.com.

TG did a small test, search “nokia n95 in Youdao, Soso and Baidu (百度) respecitvely.  Baidu, remains at the top of search engines list in China, renders 22 milions search result items in its SERP, Youdao’s search result page is only about half of that in Baidu. While Soso offers much lesser, only accounts for 338,000 results.
