It was a week ago Taobao.com was named one of the winners of Customer Experience Award 2008 by G-CEM. TG was fortunate enough to have a brief look at the China Internet C2C company’s usability research methodology.
The user research team has deployed the following tools to cultivate the needs of their users and improve the site’s functions and features:
The list is quite classic and elaborated.
TG found its latest changes in the main navigation very much in line with other international websites. Some users like TG, however may need to take some time to learn how to use its search tabs and filters. The Chinese labels on the tabs can hardly tell me what they are there for.
User research and new usability know-how have increasingly grabbed the attention of companies in the mainland China. TG saw a host of usability practitioners from China attending seminars and conferences organized by UPA last year.

Kelikuru.com is 嘰哩咕嚕, a Chinese term basically means rumbling. The idea comes across TG's mind while watching a cartoon show on TV few years ago. We walk through our life, day by day ; speak to many people, known or unknown, year after year and we may not notice that there are so many wonderful things passing by. Writing a blog can literally leave my foot-prints in the internet world, help me keep the memory. At this moment, a big chunk of my life is closely aligned with user-centric design, user research, web-based environment both in Hong Kong and China. Perhaps I may not be like that tomorrow, I may be in other setting, have nothing to do with usability, but who knows what's going to happen next?
