Samsung Design China managing director Jin Jae-han, in his ”Create an Emotional Journey of Design” conference conducted in Shenzhen, divulged his design philosophy as follows:
Why Design?
Not only design can create physical value including basic product value, it can also add symbolic valueto customers. Symbolic value is all about value-added, premium services and company brand. By tapping ourselves into our culture value, we are getting ready for creating emotional experience, fighting for cultural leadership by the end of 2010.
What’s Emotional Experience?
Emotional Experience is composed of three major components: DESIGN, INTRIGUE and DELIGHT.
- Design: From the first impression to catch the visual charming
- Intrigue: Continue the intuition and interesting discovery
- Delight: A story that can bring inspiration, enlightenment and enriched value

TG feels overdosed myself with SEO pills over the last couple of days.. will take a break and write something else. Writing a blog is something TG like as long as its does not pose any pressure to keep up with the deadline or meet a target with dollar sign on it!! Anyway, the last part we will discuss is “Texts used in META description”
Texts used in META description
- Considered less important in the ranking as it was abused
- The META description should be a sentence to a paragraph describing the content of the site or page
- The maximum display of meta characters is 156.
- It will be displayed on SERP so we should apply the best practice in copywriting to attract target users
- The META description is recommended to include primary keyword, singular or plural, misspellings and synonyms, separated by commas each

Many friends told TG the first part is very easy to follow with the exception of finding the right keywords. That’s true, it’s a trial and error process, take a while to find what you are looking for. Working along with Google Insights tool, TG would also suggest using Google Adwords keyword tool, a great tool to be helpful in three situations, according to Google
- When you first create a new ad group
- When your current keywords are performing poorly and you need to find better options
- When you have one keyword that really works well and want to find more like it

After discussing the first part - Texts used on inbound link, TG will continue to compose some points relating to ‘Texts used in title tag of browser’
Texts used in title tag of browser
- Title tag is like a book title, it tells Google what’s our site or page all about. Google would match the titles with related categories and index them
- Relevancy is the key. The more likely the title tag ties to its content, the more times Google will search for its content and the more often users will come back for the right content
- Short site titles are usually better than long one
- The following screenshot tells us and the search robots what products Yahoo! Shopping is selling in different sections of her site: The top one sells Sports and Outdoors, the second one sells Electronic and the one at the bottom sells Laptop Computers

- Less important than inbound links

Two days ago, TG found a new Yahoo home page with url - http://m.www.yahoo.com/ . After asking around, TG was told Yahoo has launched a test randomly.

The new home page revamp may come just as the right time, injecting a new source of energy to the troubled internet giant. Yahoo has rough days over the past 12 months and many staff left the company, a new ”front door” may bring good feng shui (風水) back to the company. Just for kidding!!
“We are going to put what matters to you most at your fingertips,” said Tapan Bhat, the senior vice president in charge of “front doors” — the main destinations at Yahoo, including Yahoo.com, MyYahoo and the Yahoo toolbar.
The new Yahoo home page features a tab on the left hand column of the page with sophisticated links to the user’s 10 or 20 favorite sites. It functions as an alternative to navigation methods like bookmarks, link bars or browser tabs, he said.
At the center of the new homepage is its Content Optimization Knowledge Engine, a personalization technology that can determine what the most engaging content may be to a specific user, then serve it up based on their prior surfing habits. Users can tie their knots to relevant ads, the COKE will deliver relevant ads according to their particular interests.
Yahoo has invited a random sample of its users amounting to less than 1 percent of audience to test the makeover of the new Yahoo homepage. The tests will be conducted in Britain, France, India and the United States.
TG kept the current home page - Hong Kong channel before it’s gone.

Search marketing is a fast-changing business, search engines will change their algorithm from time to time. TG was lucky enough to find a couple of mentors who show the ropes and pointed the way to do search engine optimization (SEO). Through sharing, they tell TG a few tips that still always prevail and be effective in raising our site ranking. The first part we will discuss is ‘Texts used on inbound link’
Texts used on inbound link
- These texts are of the most peculiar and paramount to determine where to rank a website in Google. It’s highly recommended to be keyword specific, always use the most targeted keyword phrase
- The rule of thumb is to ”use what people search for”.
- Said easier than Done! TG reckons that Google Insights is a great tool for search keywords, which can compare search volume patterns across specific regions, categories, and time frames. In this example, TG searches for Nike Shoes, Nike basket ball shoes and Nike sports shoes. The outcome is “Nike Shoes” takes the first lead, most users use it for keyword search in China dated back from 2004.

- Google recommends 100 links per page max – ”There should be a reason for link to be on a page”
- It’s also recommended that our inbound link should be consistent with the page title it directs to so that Google would not get confused by the naming convention. The following screenshot acquired from Yahoo! Shopping shows the links and its referring page is consistent

Two months after TG has written a post “Hong Kong Economic Journal gears up!“, (信報),a friend asked TG to check it out again yesterday. This time, we’ve seen a strong surge of feedback and comments coming from its forum section, political issues in particular.
It’s easy to understand that lots of comments and feedback are piling up on political front since the publisher has been known for its opinionated editorials. It also received boost from Hong Kong Legistative Council Election 2008, which was a prevailing event over the past few days.
The flux of comments on Legco Election 2008 may open a new door for the fledging online publisher. It may be a good turning point to reshape its direction, shifting gear to user-generated content approach. Should it be able to pin down its core services to content management and banner inventory, the chance of getting a higher ranking in Google and Yahoo will be higher, the more explicit business model it will be.
As users are gathering together for political issues, their profile, background and interests are becoming more defined, setting the stage for the company to understand its users profile. Having a good understanding of its target users, HKEJ (信報) can start thinking about how to explore and make use of other online tools to faciliate their users needs.
Observing the forum pages, TG would suggest HKEJ (信報) to spend more time on making it easy for users to navigating, finding related topics and grouping information.
