Redesigning a website can be a daunting and interesting exercise. Both portal Yahoo! and social networking hub Facebook users blacklash the internet companies for their latest redesign.
Then comes the question whether user feedback should come first in the process of redesign. It was reported that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has circulated an internal email to his staff.
The feedback on Facebook’s new look, which emphasizes a stream of Twitter-like status updates, is almost universally, howlingly negative. Why isn’t CEO Mark Zuckerberg listening to users? Because he doesn’t have to, he’s told employees.
“A tipster tells us that Zuckerberg sent an email to Facebook staff reacting to criticism of the changes: “He said something like ‘the most disruptive companies don’t listen to their customers.’” Another tipster who has seen the email says Zuckerberg implied that companies were “stupid” for “listening to their customers.” The anti-customer diktat has many Facebook employees up in arms, we hear.” Quote from Valleyway
In a swift reaction, Facebook Director Christopher Cox addresses to users by reassuring their user-driven motivation in redesigning the site- to help you share with the people you care about and find out what’s happening with them.
The remark made by Mark Zuckerberg has undoubedly upset the 175 million-strong users who are currently using the social networking site everyday. Let’s face it, internet is basically a vehicle for communication. Like other traditional industry, a product or service is nothing more than a tool, it will fade out like a deadfish if it fails to fulfill users’ evolving needs. We saw the rise and demise of many giants as a result of reluctance and indifferent user’s aspiration. Only a tool becomes part of user emotional experience can it be escalated to the next level.

Alibaba.com has recently upgraded its navigation scheme by studying their users needs. Hopefully, it gets a positive result.

Kelikuru.com is 嘰哩咕嚕, a Chinese term basically means rumbling. The idea comes across TG's mind while watching a cartoon show on TV few years ago. We walk through our life, day by day ; speak to many people, known or unknown, year after year and we may not notice that there are so many wonderful things passing by. Writing a blog can literally leave my foot-prints in the internet world, help me keep the memory. At this moment, a big chunk of my life is closely aligned with user-centric design, user research, web-based environment both in Hong Kong and China. Perhaps I may not be like that tomorrow, I may be in other setting, have nothing to do with usability, but who knows what's going to happen next?
